Water is one of the essential requirements for life. All living things need water for their survival. In fact, water is used for a variety of purposes, including drinking, food preparation, irrigation and manufacturing. It has been part of our daily lives to the point that man wouldn’t be able to live or survive without its presence. According to Cross grove (2015), water is considered as one of the most valuable resources on earth and is one of the essential components of the ecosystem. Truly that the water never fails to help us in so many things, including our day-to-day activities, and even regarding our health aspects. Based on the Medical Health Line, as cited by Natalie Silver (2019), water is also a vital component for the sustainment and development of every individual’s health. Water helps us in terms of regulating one’s body temperature, protecting the tissues, spinal cord, and joints. It also helps excrete wastes through perspiration, urination, and defecation. Furthermore, it helps us maximize our physical performances, balances our weight, improves the blood and oxygen circulation, prevents overall dehydration, and many more. For the same reason, water is greatly important to nearly every part of our body. It doesn’t just only hit our daily recommended intake, but more importantly, it contributes in maintaining one’s current state of being and may even help improve our overall health.
The main problems with water are; shortages of water, unavailability of clean water and waterborne diseases. Globally, around 80 percent of all deaths from illness in the developing world are caused by lack of access to safe water, and more than 5 million people die each year due to water-related diseases, such as severe diarrhea, hepatitis A and dysentery. On the other hand, growing populations, expanding agriculture, industrialization and high living standards have all boosted the demands of water. On the other way, drought, overuse of water and pollution have all contributed to the decrease of water supply. Since every individual always depend on water for livelihood.
Currently, some citizens in General Santos City, Philippines, specifically in Uhaw, Barangay Fatima are experiencing water shortage. People living in that area are said to have difficulties in terms of water usage. It was said that sometimes, only few drops of water come out from their perspective faucets in a minimum of 4 hours, which often made them feel distressed and to complain about their situations. However, some students objectively those who are studying at Mindanao State University are the ones who suffer the most with this problem. It’s been so hard for them to adjust and to make a way whenever water shortage occurs, to the fact that they need to take a bath earlier before the class time. This situation had driven us to pursue and to push our advocacy and to raise this campaign as a platform, to elevate sensibility in terms of the world’s water supply under reservoir and also to raise awareness about managing and using our water wisely and sufficiently. Society needs to realize that our water on earth is not an everlasting resource, and that each of us needs to take action, to conserve what we have.
Conserving the water and doing water management practices, will not only help ensure water availability for the next generations, but will also help preserve the freshwater habitats and would also lower the amount of energy used in pumping, delivering and treating some wasted water. However, the development of modern industry, agriculture, and technology had also led to this catastrophe. It resulted in the pollution of water resources, as well as the increase of demands for water. In fact, it is the obligation of humanity to save water resources. People should be more economical in protecting the water. We are the only beings who have certain capabilities and skills in resolving this problem. We must know how to control the use of water. To be honest, there are a lot of ways that we can do to help conserve water. We may execute small ways for the thrift utility of water, even just by washing dishes or brushing our teeth, we can already save huge amounts of water, if we will not overuse it or if we will use it sufficiently. Water conservation is very important to secure a long-lasting future. Let us all be responsible in using our water resources. By doing something, we can make a difference regarding this issue.
